Dreams FC administrative manager Ameenu Shardow has revealed that the club was unable to pay its players’ salaries due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season started with great promise but had to be called off in March due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in Ghana.
Three months later, the season was canceled after lengthy discussions by members of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.
All Ghana Premier League clubs were negatively affected during this difficult period and Shardow, in his interview on Joy Sports Link on Saturday, stated that players did not and still do not receive salaries.
“We have not paid salaries to players during the Covid-19 period. We don’t have money to pay, that’s the plain truth. Even FIFA realized that there is a problem and that is why they brought in the Covid Relief Fund.
We had a discussion [with the players] about it. One great thing about Dreams FC is that we operate the club in a corporate vein but as a family. When we are happy and we have the resources, everyone enjoys and knows it. We are very open about that, ”he told Hans Mensah Andoh.
“Where there are also difficulties, people are aware. Actually people [players] We were drawn to the difficulties and we were trying to find solutions for the club to stay afloat, so for us and I’m sure it goes through a lot of clubs, even superpowers. In fact, we are still in this period. Now we are trying to get out of a trial period. “
Shardow noted that this period has taught the club to prepare for future events.
“But it also taught us many lessons as a club that we cannot continue to operate in this way. We have to operate in such a way that [we prepare for] future events. It has really changed the way we view our business going forward. “
Ghana’s new Premier League season is scheduled to begin on November 13.
