The Democratic National Congress (NDC) has said it has assassinated several giants of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying that alone is a harbinger of the return of the largest opposition party to government.
At a press conference on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, NDC Elections Director Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said: “It is important that you take note of the various nuclear power plant heavyweights that have fallen: Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, Minister of Fisheries – disappeared below; Titus-Glover, Deputy Minister of Transportation, disappeared; Bernard Oko-Boye, Deputy Minister of Health, has disappeared; Boniface Abubakar Saddique, minister of Something, I don’t remember, sank; Yaw Buaben Asamoa, [Adentan MP and Director of Communication of the NPP]. “
At the same press conference, the party said it has won 140 parliamentary seats so far and accused the PNP of trying to steal the will of the people by telling “tricks.”
“Since our last press conference, our opponents have made desperate attempts to throw dust in the eyes of Ghanaians,” Afriyie Ankrah told the journalist, adding: “The first point we want to make clear, emphatic and unambiguous is that we do not it is true that the NPP has a majority in parliament ”.
“Currently, we are in the lead with 140 parliamentary seats. It is not true that the nuclear power plant is the leader in the three northern regions. We won 14 of the 15 seats in the Upper East region; we won 8 of the eleven electoral districts in the Upper West region; in the North Region, we won nine of the 18 electoral districts, ”said Afriyie Ankrah.
According to him, the trend of the results points to the victory of the NDC presidential candidate, Mr. John Mahama, since, in his analysis, “except in a few cases, where a parliamentary candidate wins, the presidential candidate also wins and More often than not, the presidential candidate gets more votes than the parliamentary candidate, so it is absurd for anyone, in the face of these facts, to say that even though we are leading in the parliament, we have won regions, constituencies that we have never won before , we won the key regions: Greater Accra, Central, the western enclave, we won them and we flipped them over, seats that we had never won before like we said before, we flipped almost 38 seats, so how can someone who, in the face of this, are they leading? “
Afriyie Ankrah gave the following details of the number of seats the party claims to have won so far: Upper West – 8, Upper East – 14, North East – 2, Northern – 9, Bono – 6, Ahafo – 2, Bono East – 9, Western – 9, Western North – 7, Greater Accra – 20, Central – 13, Oti – 8, Volta – 17, Savanna – 4, Eastern – 8 and Ashanti – 4.
“So the trajectory is clear; in fact, based on the figures we have, we are leading in the Greater Accra region in the presidency, we are leading in the western enclave, we are leading in the Bono enclave and we are sure that by the time you compile the rest of the [results for the] Presidential candidate, we will be in pole position to be the one to become president, John Mahama will be the President of the Republic, ”said Afriyie Ankrah.
He alleged that the PNP, sensing defeat, is playing a trick to steal the polls.
“Now, we are aware of the tricks that the NPP is doing to change the results by ordering vote counts in the collation center, which is illegal. If you want a recount, there is a process you must go through. The first count, you must request it at the voting table, when that is done, if you are not satisfied you have to request the second match at the collation center.
“We have had situations where there were no ab initio recounts and then they go to the collation center and insist on the recounts and when those counts start, funny things happen: the ballot boxes are exchanged, we have had situations where, in Sefwi, they He exchanged an urn and so many others that we see that as a strategy, that because they know they are losing they use the count and then in the process they do all kinds of things.
“That’s why we called on people to be in the collation centers to support our agents because sometimes there are only two or three agents there and they come and join their males, they beat our people, so we need the numbers there … ”he said.
The NDC also said it has intelligence that the PNP has sent a team to its stronghold, the Ashanti region, to try to manipulate the figures in its favor because it has realized that it is losing.
