Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (PNP) has delivered on its promise in the 2016 manifesto to increase allocations and budget support for traditional chiefs and councils.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new chiefs’ houses in the North Region, Dr. Bawumia noted that monthly allowances paid to chiefs have increased by one hundred percent, while budget support for traditional councils has also been increased. duplicate.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated the importance of the leadership institution in Ghana, describing the institution as an indispensable part of the country’s history and development, hence the government’s commitment to support it in any way it can.
“At first we made a promise in the NPP manifesto to increase monthly allowances paid to chiefs and quarterly budget support to traditional councils and chiefs’ houses. We have done this one hundred percent ”, he stated.
He added that, among other interventions, the government has also made 3.5 million GHC available to the national chiefs’ house to complete the building of its headquarters in Kumasi.
“The government has also assisted the National House of Chiefs with GHC 3.5 million for the completion of its new headquarters office complex in Kumasi,” he added.
The vice president praised the institution of the leadership for its active participation in the development of the country, ensuring that the government will continue to assist the institution.
