The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, has alleged that President Akufo-Addo “is to blame for the electoral violence that has affected some parts of the country.”
According to him, the president, who is also the commander of the head of the Ghana Armed Forces, “believes in the use of brute force to intimidate voters and protesters.”
Although there is no evidence to support Sammy Gyamfi’s claim, he went on to say, “We have a president who believes in cutting off heads and not counting heads.”
Speaking on JoyNews File on Saturday 19 December, the NDC Communicator stated: “As the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghanaian Armed Forces, he takes ultimate responsibility for these events that have occurred during and after elections”.
Sammy Gyamfi further indicated that although the electoral violence is regrettable, the actions of some members of the security agency staff “will continue to be an indelible stain on the mandate of the president and Ghana’s democracy.”
The member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Alex Afenyo-Markin, for his part, rebuked the NDC communicator for his comments and urged him to show some responsibility in the use of his language.
“There can be no justification as a result of the deaths that occurred as a result of the elections,” lamented Afenyo-Markin.
The aftermath of the elections on December 7, 2020 have resulted in the death of six people who lost their lives as a result of electoral violence.
Meanwhile, there have been a number of protests launched by some people believed to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), some of which turned violent.
