The Kpone Traditional Council has described misleading reports that Supreme Chief Nii Tetteh Otu II angrily chased away the president last Sunday.
President Akufo-Addo mowed the grass on Sunday for the construction of a 40-bed hospital for the Kpone-Katamanso municipality that is expected to be completed in 24 months.
However, information that circulated on social media hours after the ceremony suggested that the President of the Council, Nii Tetteh Otu II, was angry with President Akufo-Addo.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Gbetseli division chief Nii Tei Kojo Amankwah Sune I, who spoke on behalf of the supreme chief, discredited the post.
“Disinformation on social media has discredited the name of the traditional council and we suspect that some people want to destroy the warm relationship we have with Nana Addo.
“We are very happy with the hospital project and we are surprised that someone says that the traditional authorities here are displeased with it,” said Nii Tei Kojo.
According to him, Nii Tetteh Otu II was only suggesting to President Akufo-Addo that he had wished the health center to be a multi-story structure to help conserve the land.
He said that following the suggestions, Nana Addo asked the Supreme Chief to discuss with the project contractor any modifications that could be made to the structure.
Since then, the traditional council has established a three-member committee to coordinate with the contractor on the project.
He further explained that the Supreme Chief’s hand gestures have been misinterpreted and portrayed in a negative way on social media.
“Having waited for a project like this, we were happy that it finally materialized,” he said.
Nii Tei Kojo Amankwah Sune I and other bosses reiterated their happiness for the project and warned that the council will not hesitate to take action if those behind this falsehood are found.
