President Akufo-Addo has stated that although the number of active cases in Ghana has dropped considerably from 1847 to 507 in the last 3 weeks, the country must remain disciplined until the virus is fully eradicated.

In his 17th Updating the nation on the measures adopted to combat the pandemic, the president asked for more discipline in adherence to security protocols in order to completely eliminate the virus.

“Now more than ever we must be even more disciplined in our adherence to personal hygiene measures, mask use and social distancing that have become part of our daily routine,” he said.

Although Ghana presents encouraging statistics, it stated that “the virus has the potential to return strongly once you let your guard down” hence its delay in announcing a return to normalcy in all aspects of national life.

“Truth be told, we cannot afford at this critical moment to throw caution to the wind and destroy the incredible amount of work done by the government, health officials, heroic front-line health workers, and members of health agencies security to get us here, “he said.

He noted that the Greater Accra, East, Ashanti and Central regions account for about 80% of active cases and some regions do not record any.

Currently, 45,258 people have been recovered, with the number of active cases reduced to 507 from the previous 1,847 cases, with a pitiful tally of 297 deaths.
