The concerned citizens of Akyem in the eastern region, who organized and participated in a demonstration against former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday 9 September 2020 and demanded an apology from the standard bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the people of Okyeman. , for sharing on his Facebook timeline, a statement written by opposition MP Isaac Adongo, in which the legislator referred to President Nana Akufo-Addo and some members of his government as ‘Akyem Sakawa Boys’, they are all ” useless children, “Odododiodoo MP Edwin Nii Lanteh Vanderpuye has said.
“Why are [Concerned Citizens of Akyem] taking the ‘Akyem Sakawa Boys’ [comment] Out of context? “Vanderpuye asked in an interview with Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on Class91.3FM’s ‘The Manifesto’ segment of news analytics show 505 on Wednesday night.
“They should read it all and talk about it,” he said, adding: “This useless incitement is not helping anyone in this country.”
“It is so useless,” the former Minister of Youth and Sports enraged, saying: “The boys who did this are useless boys who are being used.”
“We are getting tired of this nonsense in this country and some of us are willing to face it,” the opposition deputy dared.
Okyeman’s youth call for Mr. Mahama to apologize to Akyems followed a complaint filed by President Nana Akufo-Addo, an Akyem, to the Conference of Catholic Bishops last week, to call his opposition number to support , in his opinion, Mr. Adongo’s degrading comments about Akyems.
Mahama, in response, however, said that the president had no moral right to complain because he had a penchant for insulting people.
Mr. Mahama cited Mr. Akufo-Addo’s reference to President John Evans Atta Mills as “Professor Do Little” in the past, and another person as “Simpa Panyin” during his days as leader of the opposition.
Vanderpuye said the follow-up call to apologize from concerned Akyem citizens is untenable.
“I think their call is totally misplaced and unjustified,” he said, wondering, “So should I go and organize the youth of Ga and say that Nana Akufo-Addo and her people should never campaign anywhere in the world? Greater Accra because recently the Akyem decided to virtually take away some of Ga’s lands? So is that the kind of politics we want to do? That politicians will hide behind faceless people and then make them wave and ask people to apologize?
“What did John Mahama say wrong?” I ask. “Has John Mahama reposted something someone else said and you apologize? Why did Osafo-Maafo not apologize to the rest of the country where he thought there was nothing like any national resource coming from there and then they don’t deserve to inherit any office in this country? ”. Mr. Vanderpuye asked.
“We must stop these things,” he ordered, observing: “Some people think they are more important than others; Someone make a comment about the water, the next thing to do is come, get on your knees and apologize; someone made a comment about galamsey and they say [he must come and apologise]”.
“Look,” he noted, “I’ve been in the Eastern Region, somewhere in the Akyem area where the campus of the School for the Deaf has been occupied by galamseyers.”
“So people should stop this, apart from that, we are going to destroy this country,” Vanderpuye warned.
If that kind of politics continues, former sports journalists feared, the country could be torn apart.
“The unity of this country is threatened,” he said. “In fact, never in our history has it been so threatened as it is today; that people could incite their people against the rest of the country or against other tribal groups. It is unfair. This is not the country that Kwame Nkrumah built, this is not the country that Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama bequeathed to Nana Akufo-Addo ”.
“It’s so unfortunate,” Mr. Vanderpuye lamented, asking, “So if today we Gas get up and say that the Akyem should remove the so-called Akyem Traditional Office from Adabraka and bring it to Kyebi, will it be good? ? “
For him, Mahama has done nothing wrong to apologize for.
“John Mahama is not going to apologize today, he is not going to apologize tomorrow,” he said.
“Apart from that, we will all demand that all politicians, all leaders of this country, apologize for one statement or another; from today. Some of us are even going to insist that some people will get a visa even to enter Accra. Why? Are we no longer in a united Ghana? This nonsense must end ”.
“Very soon, some people will also prevent some people from campaigning in another region. Yes. So if Volta Youth stands up and says that because of what the government did during the registration exercise, no person from the PNP should campaign in that region, will that be fair? So will Akufo-Addo go campaigning in Bole or anywhere in Gonjaland? Go to? Why do you want to virtually destroy this country due to the selfish aggrandizement of the people, to the capricious political attempts? Please, I don’t want to get nervous tonight, but this news is totally useless, ”Vanderpuye said angrily.
He then notified the PNP that: “If this is the policy they want to play, some of us know how to play and play well because that is the game they want to play, so we will fill their bucket, let them run over and give it back to them because they must know they have a Party that wins in only two regions, so if we decide to make the rest of the regions impossible to campaign, will they be happy? They should stop this and allow us to have a very issue-based campaign and let the Ghanaians decide. “
