Wayne Rooney’s revival in the Derby continued with a 2-0 home win over Swansea, which extended his unbeaten streak to six games.
Colin Kazim-Richards put them in a lead in the fourth minute that was doubled by Kamil Jozwiak eight minutes before the break to dent the Swans’ rise.
Derby is still in the bottom three on goal difference, but is undefeated in six since Rooney was named interim manager.
And he said: ‘There are a lot of games left and I’m very sure that we won’t be there (in the last three) at the end of the season.
“It’s not nice to be down there, but we need to get our attention and focus on getting higher up the table because we are better than where we are, I think everyone can see that.
“In the last month there have been many positive aspects and I think that if we continue to work and show the moments of quality and class that we have, I have no doubt that we will move.
‘It is a great victory for us. Swansea are a very good team, so beating them at home shows where the players are. They have become more confident with each game and tonight has been a very good performance. ‘
Chuba Akpom secured back-to-back victories for the 10-man Middlesbrough with the only goal against Luton.
Akpom’s goal in the 52nd minute turned out to be the winner, although James Collins had a tying goal in the 67th minute from the penalty spot because he touched the ball twice after Sam Morsy was sent off for handball.
Sean Morrison’s final header saw Cardiff rebound from their derby loss to Swansea to beat Birmingham in a five-goal thriller.
Robert Glatzel had put the home side ahead, but Birmingham led 2-1 with 13 minutes remaining thanks to goals from Marc Roberts and Ivan Sánchez before Harry Wilson leveled to set up Morrison’s goal in the 89th minute.
Adam Armstrong was Blackburn’s last hero as they came from behind to beat Rotherham 2-1 at Ewood Park.
Armstrong scored the deciding goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time, stabbing home after Daniel Ayala’s knockdown after Harvey Elliott’s draw in the 80th minute had dragged his team back into him.
Michael Smith had given the visitors the lead with 29 minutes remaining, but Rovers finished on the grandstand.
Huddersfield responded to their 5-0 beating at the weekend at Bournemouth with a goalless draw at Coventry, which is now unbeaten in eight.
