The Senegalese international has explained his experience since the Vicarage Road team was relegated to the English second division
Watford forward Ismaila Sarr has revealed his surprise after discovering that the Championship is a tough league.
The 22-year-old has played 21 times in the English second division this season, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
The forward was one of the Hornets’ standout players in the 2019-20 Premier League season, scoring five goals, amid other dazzling displays.
However, their effort was not enough to help the Vicarage Road team avoid relegation at the end of the season after finishing in the bottom three.
The Senegalese international has now explained his experience playing in the Hornets Championship.
“It is a tough league and it has surprised me a lot. It’s a very physical league and it’s been tough, but I’ve tried to work as hard as I can for the team. That’s my job, ”Sarr told the club’s website.
“You have to use your body more against defenders in this league, as they are all really physical. Everyone fights very hard and I have to win these battles for the team.
“I can’t just use my speed in the championship and just use the threaded ball. We have to use different tactics and find a different way other than rhythm. “
Watford is third in the championship table after 13 wins, including three straight wins over Huddersfield Town, Barnsley and Stoke City.
The forward has revealed his willingness to make more hits for Watford this season to ensure they continue their impressive form and return to the Premier League.
“I can contribute more to the team. We must continue to win games, especially against our direct rivals, “he continued.
“Then promotion will be possible, but we have to think of each game as if it were a final. It is very important to return to the Premier League.
“This is our mission and we are all working hard to achieve this goal. It won’t be easy, but this is our ultimate goal ”.
Sarr partnered with the French club Rennes Hornets in the summer of 2019 and explained his difficulty adjusting to the team upon arrival.
“It was difficult to adapt and then I went a little time without playing. I didn’t speak the language, but I tried not to speak too much and instead spoke with my feet, ”he added.
“I kept working very hard and I finally made it. I really like being here. Everyone in the club is very nice and kind to me. They all try to help me.
“Troy always helped me and was respectful even before [Sadio] Mané spoke [about looking after me] at Anfield. This is normal for Troy and he’s always trying to help everyone on the team. “
The winger is expected to appear when Watford faces Millwall in a league game on Tuesday night.
