The fire has destroyed the panels of the Yendi Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) pump in the Dakar River near Yendi, a situation that is likely to create a serious water shortage in and around the municipality.
Alhaji Adam Sayibu, the company’s Yendi District Manager on Friday led Ya-Na Abukari II, Yendi Municipal Executive Director Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussuf and Yendi Divisional Police Acting Commander, Superintendent Twum Barimah, surrounded panels of burned bombs to see for themselves the extent of damage.
He said the GWCL regional leadership in Tamale had sent for the parts in Accra, as they suspected that power fluctuation was the cause of the fire outbreak.
He assured that regular water supply would be resumed when parts arrived for repair.
For his part, Ya-Na Abukari II the Supreme Lord (King) after inspecting the damaged bomb panels with the Public Relations Officer of the Gbewaa Palace, Mr. Musah Yakubu and his secretary, Mr. Abdul- Raman Mahama, advised the people of Yendi to use the water they had stored wisely, as the municipality had no other source of water to supply them.
He said he and the municipal executive director would work together to ensure that Ghana Water Company Limited fixed the problem.
