Just two weeks before Ghana’s general elections, the ruling New Patriotic Party promises free early childhood education for the pupils of all the major porters, popularly known as ‘Kayayes’.

The party’s national women’s organizer, Kate Gyamfua, says the PNP is on track to deliver on all promises made to the group ahead of the 2016 elections.

She spoke at the official launch of the NPP campaign targeting the main loaders in Kumasi.

The campaign called ‘Kayaye for Nana’ is to support President Akufo-Addo to retain power.

In 2016, then-candidate Akufo-Addo promised to abort the collection of the ‘Kayayes’, whom he honored when he took office.

Therefore, Ms Gyamfua is asking the leading potters to believe in the PNP, ensuring that the party remains committed to getting them out of trouble.

“Nana promised them, and they themselves recognize that he has kept all the promises he made to them. Now, no kayaye pay a ticket in this country and all their taxes have been canceled.

“Once again he is building a shelter for them that we have started, we are also setting up a nursery for their children and it is also ongoing. We ask you to continue supporting Nana Addo, ”he said.

The national president of the Kayaye Association, Hajia Adiza Zongo Pioneer, accused the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) of using the NPP’s own campaign slogan, “Four more for Nana” to divert the attention of ignorant electorates.

It sensitized the electorate to Nana Akufo-Addo’s number one position on the ballot.

“The ‘kayayes’ are very grateful people, we will not disappoint the government and as a representative of all the ‘kayayes’ in the country. I want to promise Nana Addo that we will make sure they hold him.

“When you get your ballot, make sure you vote number one and don’t let NDC mislead you by saying that Nana Addo is number four, it’s a lie.

“I know we have benefited a lot from this government, many of the Kayayes have been recruited into various government job opportunities through the first and second lady, as well as the chief of staff,” he said.

As part of the launch, the president of the male potters in the Ashanti region, Abdul Aminu Raman, received a motorcycle to help monitor members’ activities.
