Voting is still ongoing at some polling stations within the Bantama and Tamale North constituencies due to long lines even after the 5:00 pm deadline.
According to the Election Commission, rechargeable lamps have also been provided to ensure that voting continues smoothly.
In a statement from the EC, he stated: “The Electoral Commission is aware that at the close of the polls at 5:00 pm today, there were long lines at some polling stations within the electoral districts of Bantama and Tamale Norte and, as such, the vote is still ongoing.
“To ensure an orderly and uninterrupted voting process at the affected polling stations, the Commission has provided rechargeable lamps to ensure that voting continues smoothly.”
The EC added that the Commission has also activated additional biometric verification devices to speed up the voting process.
“In addition, all officials on the ground are working tirelessly and security has also been reinforced to ensure that the process is peaceful and orderly,” the Commission added.
They assured the general public that no electorate will be deprived of their rights as a result of the delay.
“Each voter will be allowed to cast their vote and each vote will be counted,” the statement concluded.
