Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has rebuked the majority in parliament for putting his party’s interest above the country’s interest in the ‘stinking’ Agyapa royalty deal.

According to him, as the country goes to the polls, it is imperative that voters value the way their members of parliament vote on the issues that bother the country so that they remove members of parliament who are on automatic pilot.

For him, if the deputies are punished in this way, they will realize the need to respect their constituents and will always vote in favor of policies that transform the country’s fortunes for the better.

Read the raw version of his post below:

I am sure that as our fellow parliamentarians on the other side reflect on the deadly damage that Agyapa has done to the electoral possibilities of the PNP, they would regret being so belligerent and impervious to the legitimate concerns of the Minority to the extent that they left us with there is no other option than to organize an outing.

The majority in Parliament lost the opportunity to put the national interest before blind partisan loyalty. They may have joined the Minority in the process not only to protect Ghana’s gold royalties from Akufo-Addo’s indiscretion, but would also have saved their party’s corporate image.

As I have long advocated, it is time for voters to value the way their MPs vote on issues so important that they define the destiny of our nation, and that the assessment of voters and how they punish wandering MPs at the polls it may simply force MPs on both sides of the divide to finally abandon unbridled and unmitigated partisanship.

In the meantime, let’s muster up the courage to reform the 1992 Constitution, which turns the Parliament of Ghana into a pathetic lame jerk.
