The Volta Regional Police Command has praised key stakeholders and the public for a largely successful conduct of Monday’s general election in terms of safety.

Sgt. Prince Dogbatse, the command’s regional public relations officer who spoke with the Ghana news agency, appreciated the largely peaceful nature of the elections in the region without incident.

He said that prior to the elections, the Command identified some 631 critical points in the region, which alarmed the inhabitants due to the volatile nature of the upcoming elections, which once again increased the tension and insecurity in the population.

He said this hotspot identification was to inform Command of deployment strategies, officers and men and what numbers to deal with in a volatile situation.

Sergeant Dogbatse said the role of the public was unique in the 2020 election period, which he said emanated from the many commitments the Command had to major players, including; seminars, media training, peace concerts and simulation exercises so that the public knows their disposition and responsibilities at the polls.

“The Command appreciates the cooperation and hopes that this relationship will continue and expand in the future.”

At Christmas time, he warned residents of the region to maintain personal safety to avoid attacks by criminals, who would like to take advantage of the season.

Sergeant Dogbatse urged the business community to avoid traveling with large amounts of money to prey upon any attack that results in injuries and deaths.
He said the Command was willing to protect lives and property even at Christmas and called on everyone to take personal responsibility for their safety.
