VIDEO: IGP conducts investigations into political campaigns in police vehicles
The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into videos showing people in political paraphernalia campaigning in police vehicles.
The Police, in a disclaimer issued today, said that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, had directed the Director General of the Police Professional Standards Office (PPSB) to investigate and report on the case.
The press release added that officers guilty of the unsanctioned act will be punished accordingly.
“The attention of the Police Administration has been brought to the attention of the Police Administration to videos and photographs showing people with political party identity apparently gathering in Police vehicles,” the press release said.
“The Administration does not sanction acts of this nature. The Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, has instructed the Director General of the Professional Police Standards Office (PPSB) to investigate and present a report on the matter. for agents who are found guilty will be punished accordingly.
“The Police Service is committed to its declared principle of impartiality. The general public must be assured that it will carry out its police functions without fear or favor.”
The police statement comes hours after the standard-bearer of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC), John Mahama, in a Facebook post (below) described the incident as unacceptable and unprofessional.
Mahama in his post shared a video showing people dressed in New Patriotic Party (NPP) paraphernalia gathering in the bucket of a Police van.
He posted: “Unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. The bastardization of our institutions is one of the results of this failed leadership.”

2. The Administration does not sanction acts of this nature. Therefore, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, has directed the Director General of the Police Professional Standards Office (PPSB) to investigate and report on the matter, so that officers who are convicted are punished accordingly.
3. The Police Service is committed to its stated principle of impartiality. The general public must be guaranteed the performance of their police functions without fear or favor.
