The government has returned 40 percent of the land it compulsorily acquired in Amrahia, Kweiman and Danfa for use as dairy farms.
For nearly 50 years after the projects collapsed, the lands covering nearly 2,000 acres had become a bone of contention between successive governments and traditional authorities.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Kweku Asumah Cheremeh, announced the return of the lands in a durbar of the chiefs and the people of Danfa, near Accra, held yesterday to receive the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was he was on a campaign tour of the Madina constituency.
“After a series of meetings, President Akufo-Addo has granted his request and has agreed to transfer 40 percent of the dairy farms to him,” announced Mr. Asomah Cheremeh.
His proclamation was met with cheers and spontaneous applause.
He encouraged chiefs to contact the Land Commission to begin the land documentation processes.

Danfa boss Nii Djanie Tsuru Afutu Brempong IV expressed strong approval and admiration for President Akufo-Addo, adding: “The ‘four more for Nana’ advertising slogan is not only in words, but also manifests in shares “.
He thanked the government for handing over the land to them and said that when all the necessary documents were finalized, it was his wish that the land be used for the construction of a secondary school for the area.
He also called on the government to facilitate the reconstruction of the city’s roads in and around Danfa.
Merchants of Madina
Before his stop at Danfa, the vice president had also visited the Madina market, where merchants besieged his convoy of vehicles in their attempt to catch a glimpse of him.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied on the tour by the Member of Parliament in Medina, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique; the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey; the Regional Vice Minister of Greater Accra, Ms. Elizabeth Sackey, and the Municipal Executive Director of La Nkwantanang-Madina (MCE), Ms. Jennifer Dede Adjabeng.
The streets were jammed and the atmosphere was so charged with chants, shouts and music, that the vice president’s security detail had to go the extra mile to make way for the convoy.
Dr. Bawumia and his entourage first called the La Nkwantanang Mantse, Nii Kotei Djor I, at his palace to inform him of his presence in the area and seek his blessings.
Nii Djor warmly welcomed the Vice President and his entourage, thanked them for their respect and subsequently wished them well.
The vice president led the chief and his elders through some of the programs the government had undertaken in the area and urged them to support President Akufo-Addo in his quest to retain power to further develop the country.
Dr. Bawumia and his team were also at Nii Dagadu palace in Madina Zongo, where a meeting was held with the chiefs of Zongo and Mallams. He also met with the heads of the various ethnic groups and joined Sarki Amadu Baba Seidu in praying at the Central Madina Mosque.
The Zongo bosses thanked the Vice President for supporting the construction of the central mosque with an amount of GH ¢ 20,000 and 500 bags of cement and asked for more support.
The vice president said the government had done a lot for the Zongo communities and it would take four more years to turn the fortunes of the communities, including bringing education to their doorsteps.
“The government of President Akufo-Addo has sent 40 students selected from the Zongos to study medicine to Cuba and they will return to help the Zongos and the country in general. Another 40 will also be selected to go to study medicine, so we we have more doctors in our communities, “he added.

For her part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, advised the Medina merchants not to fall for the lies of the opponents of the New Patriotic Party (PNP), but to strongly support President Akufo-Addo to allow him to win this year’s election.
Adentan constituency
The vice president’s tour also took him to Ashalley Botwe in the Adentan constituency, where the area’s Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoah, warned the electorate not to vote for different candidates in the presidential and parliamentary elections. .
The Trobu constituency was the last stop on Dr. Bawumia’s tour. There, he addressed various Muslim groups and also inspected a bulk power plant in ACP, near Pokuase.
