The Nana Akufo-Addo NPP government is committed to introducing measures to improve the agricultural sector and ensure food security and improve the lives of farmers, said Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Accordingly, the government will continue to provide necessary agricultural inputs, such as fertilizers and extension services, while working to reduce post-harvest losses.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia gave the guarantee when he commissioned a 1,000-ton warehouse in Asaam near Mampong in the Ashanti region on Monday, October 12, 2020.
The Asaam warehouse is one of 80 warehouses being built across the country under the One District One Warehouse program, to complement the successful Planting for Food and Jobs program.
Designed to store the abundant food produced during their season and reduce post-harvest losses, the warehouses are also designed to support agricultural processing factories established under the One District One Factory initiative.
Speaking at the commissioning, the vice president emphasized the government’s focus on the agricultural sector.
“Our record of innovation since taking office in 2017 is there for all to see. We have introduced flagship programs like Plantation for Food and Employment. We have ensured regular supply of inputs like fertilizers and seeds to farmers. Improved prices for their job.
“This warehouse, and others like it across the country, will ensure that your hard work and sweat doesn’t go to waste. Excess food will be stored here for use in the lean season.
“We will continue to implement programs that will make agriculture attractive to youth and diversify the agricultural value chain,” he promised.
