Veteran Ghanaian sound engineer and founder of The Last Two Music Group, Edward Nana Poku Osei, known professionally as Da ‘Hammer, has said that public voting should not be used as criteria for awarding rapper of the year status.

Da ‘Hammer’s comment stems from controversies that erupted after Kwesi Arthur was crowned Rapper of the Year at the recently concluded Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Several experts from the entertainment world were of the opinion that Eno Barony should have been chosen as the rapper of the year and not Kwesi Arthur.

The founder of The Last Two Music Group added his take on the debate about whether or not Kwesi Arthur deserved the award in an interview with Caleb Nii Boye on ShowBiz on Starr 103.5 FM.

“It’s just what I heard about how rapper of the year was handled. I heard it was based on votes and that’s the worst I’ve ever heard in a category like rapper of the year.”

“How do you expect people to be honest about their opinion of a rapper? You can’t get fans to be honest about their opinion of their idol. There’s no way someone who loves Sarkodie will say that Sarkodie can’t rap this year or he didn’t do so well. “

“The rapper of the year can never be in the voting category, it has to be decided by a committee within the Academy that understands rap. They must know what it takes to have five microphones or one microphone. It should never be based on one song. , but all the material you’ve published. “

“You need people who understand it to be able to choose the rapper of the year in a neutral way and then the VGMA failed in this category.”
