President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says plans are well advanced to exploit bauxite resources at Atewa in Abuakwa in the southern eastern region.
He said the state-owned Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) is determined to develop the bauxite mine to create jobs for the youth in the area and also for other Ghanaians.
“It is time to mine the bauxite here and plans are well advanced to mine the bauxite so that the people of Kyebi and Ghanaians in general have income-generating jobs,” he emphasized.
The president spoke at a durbar organized for him by the leaders of the Akyem states in Kyebi during the second day of his three-day tour of the Eastern Region.
Heads and individuals from the three Akyem states, including Abuakwa, Kotoku, and Bosome, as well as Okuapemanhene, Oseadeayo Ohene Kwasi Akuffo III, ministers of state and members of parliament were present to honor the occasion.
President Akufo-Addo hoped that bauxite mining would change the local economy of the host communities and the nation at large. He said: “The government is committed to creating jobs and ensuring that people have enough money in their pockets.”
Speaking about government projects, he said that in the Eastern Region around 1,481 projects were started with 768 completed and 730 ongoing projects. “In the Akyem area, we have started 560 projects, 345 have been completed and there are 215 projects in progress.”
President Akufo-Addo said that before taking power in 2016, he vowed to give the best of himself to Ghanaians and asked them to evaluate his performance over the past years and vote en masse for him and the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South constituency, Samuel Atta Kyea. to continue your work.
The Minister of Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Mr. Samuel Atta-Kyea, said that the integrated aluminum industry project to be started in parts of the Atewa forest will result in the construction of several housing projects for the workforce and will improve economy.
He added that the Hungarian government had made 100 million euros available for the housing project.
The Okyehene, Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin asked Ghanaians to give the president the go-ahead for a second term, considering the number of development projects and initiatives proposed and completed by the government.
The Okuapemhene, Nana Kwasi Akuffo III, said that as chiefs they would support the government in power to bring development to the country and therefore support the efforts of the president considering that he is a son to the bench, to bring development to the country.
Later, the president commissioned the GETFUND project of a 14-unit classroom block in Bepong and inspected the roads of the city of Kwahu-Asakraka in Mpraeso and Abetifi, respectively.
He also commissioned the Kwahu-Tafo city roads and commissioned an 18-unit, three-story dormitory block at Nkwatia SHS and met with Kwahu chiefs and people to solicit their votes.
