Danish club Vejle Boldklub has placed Raphael Dwamena under medical supervision after the Ghanaian suffered a setback to his heart.
Dwamena underwent successful heart surgery in January, where an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) was implanted to control his heart rate.
Knowing the risks involved, Vejle Boldklub’s medical team constantly monitored the 25-year-old on training grounds and on match days.
Unfortunately, the club recorded only one case of Dwamena heart limit values that were too high and as a result the former FC Zurich striker had to be removed from the pitch.
The Danish club’s technical director, Jacob Krüger, explained the decision.
“That now there has been a case in which the limit values have been too high, we must, based on a professional evaluation of the health as a club, take the consequences. Therefore, Raphael is taken off the field. We are of course sorry on Raphael’s behalf, but the parties have been aware from the outset of the consequence that would have been the case if Raphael’s monitoring had exceeded the limit values in the measurement. “
Krüger then added: “Raphael Dwamena has demonstrated in his short time at Vejle Boldklub a great human format, a professional approach to his profession and a desire to learn from it towards our young players. Now we will help Raphael in the new situation. “
Dwamena expressed his gratitude to Vejle Boldklub for giving him the opportunity to make his dreams of playing soccer come true once again.
“I am really grateful for the opportunity Vejle Boldklub gave me to play football again. Now they took me out of the field and I am under medical supervision ”.
“Despite not being able to be on the pitch, I still want to help the club achieve its goals. Therefore, I would also like to say to my teammates, staff and fans that I am proud to be part of the Vejle Boldklub family, ”he added.
Dwamena played five games for Vejle Boldklub in the Danish Super League this season, scoring two goals.
