The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cut the grass for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the city of Sunyani.

Last Thursday’s ceremony in Sunyani was attended by the heads and people of the Sunyani Traditional Council and was part of the activities of the Vice President during his tour of the Bono Region.

The 29-kilometer project will be part of major road construction or rehabilitation works across the country to be financed under the Sinohydro agreement between the government, on the one hand, and Sinohydro Corporation and the Chinese government, on the other.

At least 26 communities located in eight suburbs of Sunyani Municipality will benefit from the construction and rehabilitation of the roads in downtown Sunyani.

Roads

Areas include Agyei Ano (Dr Berko Area Roads), Mayfair Area Roads, Baakonlaba Area Roads, New Town Area Roads, Inland Estate Link Roads, Upper Berlin Area Roads , Penkwase area roads and Sunyani Inland Link Roads.

The Sunyani city road works are expected to improve road access and traffic flow in the city.

Road construction

At the ceremony, Dr. Bawumia said that the construction and rehabilitation of the roads in downtown Sunyani were part of the government’s vision to improve and expand access to the country’s road network.

“As you know, President Akufo-Addo has declared 2020 the year of the roads. Although we have experienced some challenges due to COVID-19, our focus remains on delivering good quality roads to the good people of this country,” he said the vice president. -Said the president.

Sinohydro Agreement

Dr. Bawumia criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its alleged dissatisfaction with the Sinohydro Agreement on infrastructure development in the country, but said it had been beneficial to Ghanaians.

“When we approved the Sinohydro deal in Parliament, they even wrote to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to stop this deal after they said it was 419.

“Today, we are mowing the grass for the roads in downtown Sunyani, and this is not the only project we are dealing with under this agreement,” he said.

He said it was thanks to the benefits of that agreement that the government was addressing Accra inner city roads, Kumasi inner city roads, the Tamale Interchange project, PTC Interchange in Takoradi, the double carriage road. Adentan-Dodowa, the center of the western city and the Cape coast. roads, improvement of secondary roads in the western and Ashanti regions, Akim Oda-Ofoase-Ayirebi road and Hohoe-Jasikan-Dodo-Pepeso road.
