Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Ghana, was reportedly murdered at his home in Accra.
According to his colleague in the faculty, Dr. Poku Adusei, the academic was “assassinated” in the same way as the late Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.
“It seems to be an act perpetuated about three days ago [Thursday]but it was discovered this morning, ”he said of the unfortunate incident at the late Professor Benneh’s Adjirigano mansion.
Police collected the body of Professor Benneh who lives alone at his home on Saturday morning.
According to reports, there were no signs of a break-in or forced entry into the Adjirgano mansion.
Isaac Botchway, who claims to be Professor Benneh’s servant, told reporters that he last saw his employer around 8 p.m. Thursday.
He said the deceased usually calls him when he needs to do something on his behalf.
“I called him the next day [Friday], but did not respond. The gardener came to work this morning. [Saturday] and when he found no sign of him, he knocked on his door but there was no answer, “said the servant.
He said the gardener later went to inform the scholar’s sister who lives a stone’s throw from the Adjirgano mansion.
Together with her, they got a carpenter to force open the door and found Professor Benneh dead.
The deceased’s hands and legs were all tied in a pool of blood between the bedroom and the living room.
According to Botchway, it was clear that there was a fight between Professor Benneh and his assailant before he was killed.
He said that although the crime scene was cleaned up, there was blood splatter on the floor suggesting a fight.
