Joy Sports is reliably informed that Nana Yaw Amponsah is considering resigning from her position as CEO of Asante Kotoko, just one month after her appointment.
Nana Yaw Amponsah, whose inauguration took place a month ago in the middle of an amusement park, is unhappy with the interference of some board members in her work and wants to resign.
According to a source close to the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential hopeful, Amponsah is frustrated and doubts he can achieve his goals for the club if he continues as CEO and the trend does not change.
This is quite a surprise, considering that the 12-member Board of Directors had assured Nana Yaw Amponsah, in the presence of the club’s owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, that she will be given a free hand to run the club.
And just a month, they are doing the opposite. The source said the board is doubling down on Amponsah’s work, with more than 10 board meetings since he was appointed on August 7, 2020.
The management committees have been instituted by the board and function without the approval of Amponsah.
Additionally, some Board members have given interviews about what they intend to do in their personal capacities for the club, and are outdoing each other to keep the spotlight individually.
The source confirmed the break in the boardroom between Nana Yaw Amponsah and Dr. Kofi Abban. This was as a result of the board member vowing to establish Kotoko TV, without consulting with the CEO and other board members.
The renovation of the Adako Jachie training complex has not started due to a disagreement between the CEO and the board. According to the source, Amponsah had negotiated a good deal with the engineers, but the board decided to hire the engineers on a different plan.
Also, the club has not been able to sign any of its transfer targets, such as Justice Blay and Matthew Cudjoe, because the CEO and board are not on the page. While Amponsah has demanded money to execute the transfers, the board is negotiating the transfers itself.
According to the source, Kotoko’s decision to agree to represent Ghana in the Caf Champions League next season was influenced by a radio expert, something that made Nana Yaw Amponsah very angry.
Not only is Nana Yaw Amponsah unhappy and wanting to resign, the chairman of the board, Dr. Kwame Kyei and his vice president Jude Arthur are also considering resigning because they have been sidelined, with a “rich Accra caucus” handling the club’s affairs. .
The source claimed that board members without much money have been sidelined, despite their great knowledge of the game, while “money men” make all the decisions.
