Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has observed that under the current New Patriotic Party (PNP) government, the perception of Zongo’s youth is changing rapidly.

According to him, over the years, the youth of Zongo were used in pursuit of the parish interest of politicians, including recruiting as Vigilantes and, in some cases, criminals.

He noted that Zongo’s youth was used primarily to cause confusion and chaos to meet the needs of some politicians who are his payers.

But under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Zongo youth across the country receive the necessary development through skills training, among others.

He indicated that the government has decided to provide education and development to the youth of the Zongo communities because that is the conduit to ensure that they are not manipulated by selfish politicians.

As a result of this, he said that the government developed two vehicles, the Zongo Ministry and the Zongo Development Fund, which have since been working to provide the Zongo communities with the necessary development.

According to him, the failure of Zongo communities to develop and rise out of poverty does not suit the current government, underscoring the need for massive investment in the Zongos to transform the lives of residents.

The vice president pointed out that since they took office, 40 young people from Zongo have been sent to Cuba to study medicine, which is one of the best initiatives to transform these communities and make residents a national heritage.

“The youth of Zongo were used as fodder for violence, but we want to change that. This year we have sent forty Zongo students to Cuba to study Medicine. This is the first time something like this has happened. That is why we want them to be educated. So there is a change that we are making in terms of emphasis. We want to bring development and education ”. He revealed it in an interview with URA Radio in Bolgatanga.
