Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Antoine Griezmann will line up side by side with Barcelona when they face Atlético de Madrid tonight in the Spanish capital, but both have very different records against Los Rojiblancos as Mundo Deportivo explains.
Atleti is the only first club that Griezmann has not been able to beat, facing ten times (eight with Real Sociedad and two with Barcelona). They are, of course, also his old club.
Ter Stegen, however, has never lost to Cholo Simeone charges in nine league games.
Griezmann’s two games for Barcelona against Atleti were a 1-0 defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano and a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou.
The Frenchman will be hoping to take advantage of scoring turns against Alavés and Real Betis to contribute to a victory that ends this record tonight.
Ter Stegen has registered five wins and four draws against Atleti in his nine games against them, conceding just seven goals. Tonight’s clash will be his third game since recovering from a knee injury for which he underwent surgery in August.
This record will bring more attention to Griezmann in the face of his former club. The forward has struggled to establish himself at Barcelona since arriving from Atleti in the summer of 2019, and has scored just two goals in seven league appearances so far in 2020/21.
Griezmann has been surrounded by noise off the pitch as of late. His car was surrounded by Barcelona fans demanding that he show more respect to Lionel Messi and his uncle and former agent have been talking about their discontent at the Camp Nou.
