SA will pay $ 5.25 per dose for the Serum Institute of India (SII) Covid-19 vaccines, well above what others, including developed countries, are paying for the same vaccines.

Uganda’s Health Minister Jane Aceng has denied reports that top government officials have been vaccinated against Covid-19 before the country formally receives the vaccines.

Ms. Aceng was reacting to a report from the local Daily Monitor newspaper and the US Wall Street Journal newspaper.

In a tweet, the ministry said that neither the president nor his close associates had been vaccinated as alleged.

“I want to say categorically that neither President Museveni nor his inner circle have been vaccinated against Covid-19,” the minister said.

Uganda has so far confirmed 40,221 coronavirus cases.

The country expects to receive donations of 100,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from India and another 300,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China.

The delivery date for the vaccines has not been announced.
