The Upper East Regional National Democratic Congress has urged stakeholders demanding peace in the country to first ensure that justice prevails in the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Party described as “ridiculous” that someone asks for peace without justice, and emphasized that the NDC bases in the Region supported the decision of its standard-bearer, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, and the National Executives not to accept the election results.
“We will not give in until the Election Commission (EC) proves with evidence that John Dramani Mahama did not win the 2020 elections,” Donatus Akamugri, regional secretary of the Party for the Upper East told a crowd of NDC supporters at the Regional Office. of the EC.
Party leadership, former government appointees and Party sympathizers, dressed in red and black, with banners, marched through the main streets of Bolgatanga municipality and burned truck tires to protest the outcome of the 2020 elections.
Some of the messages on the posters said: “No to Mahama, no to peace”, “The 2020 elections are flawed”, “EC, our mandate is for JM, not for Akufo-Addo”, “EC must count my vote “,” Akufo-Addo “. stop shooting at us ”,“ We voted for Mahama, not for Akufo-Addo ”, among others.
According to Akamugri, “It is an obvious fact that what Ghanaians witnessed in the recently completed presidential and parliamentary elections in the country is the introduction of an unknown and treacherous democratic dispensation that has a tendency to plunge the country into a chaotic environment.”
He said that as a result of these “unacceptable democratic practices”, the Party leadership in the Region was calling on all well-meaning Ghanaians and the international community to put pressure on the EC to heed democratic principles and ensure justice for through collation and declaration of electoral results of 2020.
“In the Upper East region, the NDC had reason to hold two press conferences, one during the collection on December 8, 2020 and another on December 9, 2020 on the figures produced by the media.
Mr. Akamugri said that following the declaration of the results, “the NDC thoroughly audited all the pink sheets in the various constituencies and found more violations in most of the constituencies.
In Navrongo’s central constituency, for example, the Secretary indicated that the NDC’s audited presidential results captured 26,099 for the NDC and 15,537 for the NPP, but the CE certified results put the scores as NDC 26,099 and NPP 15, 587., an increase of 50 votes in favor of NPP ”.
Akamugri added that in the Talensi constituency, the NDC got 24,712 votes and the NPP got 9,129 according to its audit, but the certified results from the EC gave the NDC 24,686 votes and the NPP 9,175 votes.
“This meant that NDC lost 26 votes and NPP obtained an increase in votes to 46. Indeed, the electoral fortune of the NPP is appreciated in 72 votes. Other electoral districts such as Bawku Central and Bolga Central suffered a similar fate, ”he said.
The Secretary also recalled that some of its members suffered violent acts by some thugs, and alleged that during the count in the Yameriga electoral area, in the Talensi electoral district, strong-built people believed to be supporters of the PNP they attacked its members with firearms.
“This case has been officially reported to the Ghana Police Service and yet we are waiting to see what will happen,” Akamugri said.
