Two killed by a cocoa truck in Takoradi

A cocoa truck is reported to have killed the driver and passenger of a Daewoo Matrix vehicle on the Vodafone Highway in Takoradi.

The fatal accident occurred on Friday, November 27 at 9:30 p.m. according to the Regional Police command.

Since then, the two bodies have been identified as Eric Pamford Peters, 30, and Ama Amponsah, 27.

According to JoyNews correspondent Ina Thalia Quansah, the truck driver, Adu Emmanual, with car registration number GT 5953-20, swerved from the Vodafone intersection.

After losing its balance, the truck’s 40-foot container detached and fell onto the Daewoo Matrix registered WR 1049-19 coming from the Paa Grant roundabout.

Regional Police Public Relations Officer DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku revealed that Mr. Adu Emmanual has been detained to assist with investigations.

He also revealed that the deceased were trapped in the private car, but with the help of the recovery truck from the Fire and Road Safety Service, the bodies were recovered.

The bodies have been deposited in the morgue of the government hospital Effia Nkwanta ready to undergo an autopsy, he said.

Furthermore, accidental vehicles have been towed to the RMTTD yard in Sekondi awaiting testing.
