Two Covid-19 patients at the Hohoe Municipal Hospital in the Volta region recovered, authorities said.

They are a 22-year-old pregnant woman who returned to Hohoe from Ashaiman and gave birth to a baby, and a 32-year-old man who returned from Tema to Hohoe was diagnosed and confirmed positive on April 12, 2020.

Hohoe Municipal Hospital medical superintendent and interim municipal director of health, Dr. Pius Mensah said the two were discharged and “have returned to their various communities.”

He said that the results of the samples taken from the patients on day 14 from the day of taking the first samples were negative, requiring a final test, which was taken after two days, and the results were also negative.

Dr. Mensah said that although there was a certain level of immunity after infection, scientists were still investigating how long the immunity lasted, therefore, recovered patients were expected to follow all necessary precautions, adding that; “Recovered cases can become infected again.”

He said the Hospital recorded three positive cases on May 1, 2020, which were all contacts in the first two cases registered, while an additional 30 results from some contacts were negative, although they had not yet received more results from the contacts.

“The first samples of the contacts that came out positive were taken on April 13, that is, 15 days after the first sample was taken, so they had to deliver their second sample,” he added.

“His second sample was taken and tested. Two out of three came out negative and this technically means that we only have one positive case in the Municipality ”.

He said a major challenge was how the recovered patients would be accepted and integrated back into the community, adding that “recovered” meant they were well and that they posed no danger to anyone in the community.

Dr. Mensah asked citizens to accept and show love to the recovered patients and not to reject or stigmatize them.
