Two True Vine Covenant Church in Anyamam and the Apostolic Church of Ghana in Nakomkorpe, all in the Ada West District, have been cited for breach of COVID-19 security restrictions and protocols.
The two churches hosted Easter conventions abroad with large numbers in contravention of COVID-19 protocols.
Therefore, Mr. Adzoteye Lawer Akrofi, Ada West District Executive Director, ordered the two churches to stop all outdoor Easter activities or risk arrest.
“This is a warning, but if you do not comply, the leaders of the churches involved will be arrested and settled in court.”
Mr. Akrofi gave the orders when the District’s COVID-19 Enforcement Team came across the two churches holding the Easter Mass Convention.
The monitoring team included the District Police Commander, Military Personnel, the District Assembly Task Force, and NADMO embarked on a joint community patrol as directed by the government to ensure strict enforcement of restrictions and COVID-19 security protocols.
However, Akrofi ordered the two churches to stay away from the outdoor convention and limit it within their church auditorium in strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
Pastor Lord Appiah Frempong, pastor of the Ghana Apostolic Church in Nakomkorpe, apologized to the DCE and Sege District Police Commander, DSP, George Aboagye, for breaking the law which he claimed was due to misinformation .
“We received a letter from our national headquarters telling us that we can hold our conventions anywhere, but that we must observe security protocols,” he told the DCE.
DSP Aboagye told the leaders that the police along with the military will continue to conduct day and night patrols during the Easter festivities and that if they flaunt the law again, they would be treated accordingly.
