A group calling itself Concerned Citizens of the Volta Region (CONCIVOR) has expressed resentment at recent events in the Volta Region involving some secessionist group.

The group, which seeks to become an independent country, carried out a series of attacks against some police stations and the State Transportation Corporation (STC) in the region.

The group has been widely condemned by the region’s chiefs who have also called on security agencies to deal with the perpetrators.

Some political figures in the country have also registered their discontent with the separatists.

Concerned citizens of the Volta region, in a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, have supported the leaders of the region and called for a lasting solution to the problem.

“We associate with this statement to the position of the heads of the Volta region and especially to that of the House of Chiefs of the Volta Region expressed in a statement to the media, dated September 27, 2020, in which the traditional rulers not only condemned the attacks and underscored the peaceful nature of the peoples of the Region, but also called on the Government to carry out an independent and transparent investigation into the events of September 25, 2020. We also associate ourselves with the recount of the House of Chiefs, of some unfortunate comments and conduct directed at the people of the Volta Region that, as they point out, are not only worrying but have negative consequences for the people of the Region. “

They asked the government to treat the members of the secessionist group as criminals and treat them accordingly.

“We note that the group’s modus operandi, which so far has included hostage-taking, attacking police stations, blocking roads, and delivering senseless destruction such as burning of state property, raises serious questions about the true intentions of these groups. “

“Based on the above, Concerned Citizens of the Volta Region are convinced that these groups, whoever they are or whoever they are, have an agenda completely at odds with people with true and good intentions for the Region. Therefore , we ask that the Government treat these people as criminals and consider that their actions are intended to upset the peace and democratic order of Ghana and treat them accordingly, “the statement read.

To solve the problem, concerned residents of Volta Regional also called on the government to involve the Heads of the Region, as well as the African and international communities.

We also believe that to fully resolve the emerging problem that threatens the peace and security of Ghana, the Government must necessarily involve chiefs and other traditional chiefs in the various communities where the problems are being furthered. These engagements must be open, transparent and devoid of unnecessary suspicion on both sides.

“We hereby call on ECOWAS, whose current head is the President of the Republic of Ghana, the African Union and the United Nations, to show great interest in the matter as an early warning sign and adopt the appropriate measures to avoid another scar on the face of the world. We also call on community watchdog committees to heighten alertness in communities by sharing intelligence / information timely for action. “
