A lawn mowing ceremony and customary rites have been held for the redevelopment of La Wireless Civil Aviation lands following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and traditional authorities.
The land in question was leased to the British Colonial Administration in 1948 by the Traditional Council of La for a period of 99 years.
However, the lease would expire in 27 years.
Consequently, the government signed the MoU with the City of La Traditional, the original owners of the land, for the renewal of the lease for another 99 years.
Under the new agreement, the La Tradicional Council cedes parts of the land to the government for development purposes.
In addition, a portion of the land has been ceded to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority as it has permanent structures on that particular land.
The Land Commission would supervise the rest of the lands belonging to the State.
Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, La Shikitele (Kingmaker) and Supreme Chief of Nmati Abonase, speaking in a media interview at the ceremony, held at La Wireless in La Dadekotopon municipality, on Monday, gave the assurance that the traditional authorities would put the land to good use.
He said that the traditional authorities would engage in transparent transactions, which would take the interest of the people into consideration.
“We will use parts of the land for development works in the city.
There are rumors that the bosses have made various arrangements and we have sold all the land and shared the money, ”Nii Koofeh emphasized.
“We want to assure people that we are not going to do anything wrong and that any arrangement we make will be very transparent and people will benefit.
And so the bosses are not going to kidnap the land and use it for their own personal gain.
“The ceremony was witnessed by the regional chairman of the Land Commission of Greater Accra, Mr. Alex Quaynor and other government officials.
