Trade Your MP for Development: First Lady Tells Ningo Prampram Residents

The First Lady of the Republic, Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo, urged the residents of Ningo Prampram to vote for the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to catalyze the development of the constituency.

He stated that although the constituency has kept the NDC in parliament for the past twenty-eight (28) years, Prampram could not boast of any substantial development in its area.

Ms. Akufo-Addo made these comments in her interaction with constituency residents while touring the area to collect votes for the PNP.

The First Lady also attended a rally in Dawhenya and Ahwiam, all in the Ningo Prampram constituency, where she met with party worshipers and introduced the people to the PNP parliamentary candidate for Ningo Prampram, Alexander Martey.

She told the meeting that although the PNP never won Ningo’s parliamentary seat since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, major projects executed in the electoral district happened under the PNP governments.

To reinforce his point, he cited water supply projects, a police station and a police headquarters provided by the administration of former President Kufuor.

Under this Akufo-Addo-led administration, Ms Akufo-Addo said that Ningo Prampram has benefited from the 1 District 1 Factory (1D1F) initiative, which includes 3 factories in the constituency, building the largest greenhouse in West Africa. , a new market, the expansion of electricity in the area and the construction of storm drains.

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North Hon. Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, who accompanied the First Lady on her tour, told residents to consider the many social intervention policies that have been implemented under various PNP governments.

He mentioned the National Health Insurance Plan under President Kufuor and Free SHS, the recent reliefs in utility bills under President Akufo-Addo that they have benefited from.

He urged them to consider them and vote accordingly.

As part of his tour, he also paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Dawa and his elders at their palace and thanked them for all their prayers and support for the Akufo-Addo government and pleaded with them to lend their support as the NPP seeks another term in the charge to do more.

Dawa Chief Nene Tettehwayo Duamor XI expressed his satisfaction with the current management of the nuclear power plant.

He added that although the people of Ningo Prampram, including Dawa, have never elected a PNP MP before, there is no doubt that they have greatly benefited from the policies implemented by the government.

In his view, Free SHS is a lifesaver, as it has come to address a critical challenge in the constituency and will undoubtedly break the vicious cycle of poverty.

Nene Tettehwayo Duamor Xl assured the First Lady of her people’s unwavering support for the Akufo-Addo-led government and her determination to ensure that the PNP parliamentary candidate, Alexander Martey, represents them in the next parliament.

The tour ended with a durbar held in his honor at Lower Prampram which was honored by the Acting Chairman of the Ningo Traditional Council, the Head of Ningo Nene Wakah Atiapa III and other traditional leaders.

In his speech, Nene Wakah Atiapa III said that the time has come for the people of Ningo-Prampram to change their MP from NDC to NPP.

He said the continued selection of NDC members for parliament has slowed development in the constituency due to the lack of urgency on the part of the MP in lobbying for development projects for the constituency.

He promised that the people of Ningo Prampram will vote en masse for Alex Martey of the PNP to send a clear signal to politicians that they cannot be taken for granted.

The First Lady promised to escalate her request for fishing landing sites in Ahwiam with the relevant authorities and that the constituency would be split in two due to its vastness.

He also reminded them of the threat posed by Covid-19 and urged them to maintain strict adherence to security protocols.

The First Lady was accompanied on her tour by NPP parliamentary candidate for Ningo Prampram Alexander Doku, DCE for Ningo Prampram Jonathan Teye Doku, President of the NPP constituency for Ningo Prampram Michael Tetteh Eku and other government and party officials.
