Tottenham host West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday, and José Mourinho’s team is looking to pick up where it left off before the international break.
The Spurs ended a busy week, which saw victories against Chelsea, Maccabi Haifa and an impressive 6-1 rout of Manchester United at Old Trafford. Mourinho’s team now face West Ham in a London derby, with the Hammers in good shape.
Since then, Mourinho has confirmed that Eric Dier is a doubt for the game due to a minor injury suffered in international service, while Giovani Lo Celso withdrew from the Argentine national team due to injury and will not be available.
Here is the line-up that Mourinho should choose on Sunday.
Hugo Lloris (GK) – The Tottenham goalkeeper has been the first choice since his arrival at the club in 2012. That does not end there.
Matt Doherty (RB) – This is usually an easy decision, but Serge Aurier’s impressive performance against Manchester United has given Mourinho something to think about. Mourinho, however, relies on Doherty’s discipline, something important in a derby.
Toby Alderweired (CB) – The Belgian has been in and out of Tottenham’s lineup since Eric Dier made the defensive midfield switch, but the Englishman’s absence for this game will likely pave the way for Alderweireld to start.
Davinson Sánchez (CB) – The center-back offers more pace than Alderweired and Dier, so it is often used in conjunction with one of the other Spurs centers to complement them. Against West Ham, this will be key.
Sergio Reguilón (LB) – Very impressive in their first two games against Chelsea and Manchester United. The Spaniard has a lot of energy to go up and down the left flank, in addition to making good crosses in the attack areas.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CDM) – The summer signing has been a welcome addition to the Spurs midfield trio, offering solid defensive security, allowing players like Tanguy Ndombele more freedom of attack.
Moussa Sissoko (CM) – With Lo Celso on the verge of being lost, Moussa Sissoko could be in contention for a starting position. The powerful midfielder could fit directly into the derby, with his careers marrying defense and attack, something Lo Celso often does.
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) – It’s getting very exciting. Spurs fans are beginning to see just how good the Frenchman can be after a series of compelling performances, suggesting that his revival is on the way. Ndombele was not selected in the French team, so he should be fresh for West Ham.
Gareth Bale (RW) – There. We said it. Mourinho has told the media that the Welshman will “probably” play West Ham, but it is unclear whether he will start or be introduced from the bench. Bale did not go to Wales for international reasons, but instead worked on his fitness (and jump shot) on Hotspur Way.
Harry Kane (ST) – The forward reportedly complained of muscle fatigue while on international duty for England, but played in the last game against Denmark. Mourinho has confirmed that the Englishman will start on Sunday against West Ham.
Son of Heung-min (LW) – Fresh off a brace at Old Trafford, Son has been in incredible shape so far this season. The South Korean has efficiently paired with Kane, and adding Bale to this mix is a delightful prospect.
