The Board of Directors and management of the Tema Petroleum Refinery (TOR) have rejected the refinery workers’ accusations that they were incompetent and therefore should be relieved of their positions.
In a statement copied to Graphic Online, the state refinery’s board and management said they had worked hard and diligently to renovate the refinery, improve the company’s fortunes, and make it resilient to keep all staff despite the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They said that thanks to his strategic leadership and direction, the company had grown stronger, processed more crude, and was now efficient and more attractive to oil traders.
In the statement copied to Graphic Online, the board of directors and management mentioned offsetting portions of the refinery’s indebtedness, undertaking restructuring maintenance, replacement of a burned-out furnace, and ongoing crude oil processing as some of the achievements. that they reached. had scored since his appointment in 2017.
The statement was in response to a protest by unionized TOR staff against the board and management over accusations of mismanagement and incompetence.
Staff had held a protest at the company’s facilities in Tema on November 4 during which they demanded that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo replace the board with new members.
But in a statement signed by TOR’s Corporate and Public Relations Manager, Dr. Kingsley Antwi Boasiako, the board and management said that through their effort, the government had successfully liquidated around GH ¢ 1 billion and $ 67 million of refinery debts owed to him. third parties and financial institutions.
He said that efforts were also underway to pay off outstanding debts as part of plans to make the crude oil processor more resilient and financially stable.
He said the board had also audited the company’s accounts, the first of its kind since 2013.
The board is chaired by the Tongurean Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, who is also the supreme head of the traditional Talensi area in the Upper East, while Mr. Francis Adu Tutu Boateng is the Managing Director.
