The Volta Region Chamber of Chiefs elected Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, Supreme Chief of Anfoega Traditional Area as Speaker of the Chamber in an election on Thursday.
He obtained 34 of the 50 valid votes cast to defeat Togbui Sri III, Awoemefia from Anlo State, with whom he competed for the position.
According to Mr. Eric Dzakpasu, Deputy Regional Election Officer, who supervised the event, two votes were rejected.
A proxy vote fight delayed the process for about an hour.
Togbe Patamia Dzekley VII of Bator obtained 28 of the 50 valid votes cast to secure the vice president position.
Togbe Sri, appointed sole mediator in the Bimbilla crisis by the government, said he had the qualities to improve the Chamber, and that the heads of the Region “would never regret it.”
Togbe Tepre Hodo said that he will maintain a united and respected front of heads, and that as an active member of the National House, he would bring his expertise and experience to the development of the institution and the Region.
Moments before the election, Avatime’s Osie Adza Terkpor VII withdrew from the vice presidential race and declared his support for Togbe Patamia.
The event was under the surveillance of political leaders, security officials, the media and supervised by the Electoral Commission.
Togbe Tepre Hodo said he was grateful that ideals of political neutrality had manifested themselves in the process.
He said he would collaborate with everyone to elevate the region and called on everyone to work hard.
They were sworn in by Judge Richard Addo, a Ho magistrate.
