Not even José Mourinho’s Hollywood smile can keep everyone satisfied and smiling.

The Tottenham Hotspur boss has no choice but to be ruthless in pursuit of glory and, while Harry Kane, Heung Min-Son and Tanguy Ndombele have taken their games to new levels this period, the least seen members of the Spurs team . He could be forgiven for pining for Mauricio Pochettino.

Here are three players whose time at Tottenham could increase in January.

Harry winks

Are there any players who have benefited less from Daniel Levy’s decision to replace Poch with one of the most successful coaches of the modern era?

The greatest player of all trades, Winks’ inability to master any particular job looks set to cost him a key role in Tottenham’s most fearsome team in memory.

The veteran academy graduate lacks the belligerence of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the selfless energy of Moussa Sissoko, or the match-winning potential of Tanguy Ndombele. As a result, Winks now appears to be Mourinho’s fourth-choice midfielder; it is not an ideal situation when the European Championship looms on the horizon.

Winks needs to play regularly to get back on Gareth Southgate’s team. Fortunately, a man linked to a £ 50 million move to Manchester United and Manchester City recently shouldn’t be short of offers when the window opens.

It may not be Mourinho’s cup of tea, but Winks is undoubtedly a midfielder for Pep Guardiola’s more erudite tastes.

Davinson Sanchez

The phrase “cut your losses” comes to mind.

Spurs invested a record £ 42 million fee on the leggy Colombian when they signed him from Ajax in 2017. But, even at the age of 24 and with nearly 100 Premier League appearances under his belt, Sánchez remains guilty the type of error. you’d more easily relate to a teenager who’s barely out of academia.

The former Ajax giant hasn’t played a single second of top-notch football since his own goal against West Ham in October 3-3 capitulation. Their performances in the Europa League, especially in the loss to Antwerp and the draw with LASK Linz, have also left much to be desired.

With youngsters Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon catching Mourinho’s attention, now may be the right time to recoup some of that £ 42 million investment.

Paulo gazzaniga

The goalkeeper, who is rarely seen, had a rare taste of first-team football last season. And, as Gazzaniga discovered, buttered bread doesn’t taste as sweet when you’re used to caviar.

Mourinho praised the way the former Southampton goalkeeper stepped up in the forced absence of Hugo Lloris in 2019/20. But the Spurs boss couldn’t resist bringing Joe Hart and his shipment of medals to North London for the summer.

Despite his ‘magic hands’, Gazzaniga has not appeared on a single match day team this season and, at the age of 28, he cannot afford to miss his peak years in the stands.

The transfers to Everton and Liverpool, which were linked before the window slammed shut in October, seem unlikely now. But surely there is another Premier League club, or even a high ranking one from the Championship, that needs a hungry and talented goalkeeper with an Argentina cap on their CV.

In other news, Fabrizio Romano denies that Renato Sanches is bound for Liverpool.
