Three Barcelona players have not signed a burofax due to a salary cut after the club’s economic problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Players and club staff came together, including Lionel Messi, to voice their disagreement regarding the change in salary after the LaLiga team lost £ 88 million in revenue as a result of the virus outbreak.

According to Catalunya Ràdio, Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Frenkie De Jong and Clement Lenglet have gone against the current and have shown their support for the salary reduction.

Barcelona have stated that ‘what they want to do is not a salary cut, but a transitional salary adjustment’ to help them get through the difficult period.

Players would not see their salaries lowered, but instead their payments would be restructured and paid in smaller installments.

In March, all players suffered a downgrade when soccer stopped with Spain as one of the most infected countries in the world by covid-19.

Salaries make up about 70% of the club’s budget and the board is trying to adapt to the current climate by cutting salaries as the best way to save money.

The burofax, signed by all but the three players, has already been received by the club’s hierarchy and the matter is already being dealt with by their lawyers.

Financial struggles are not preventing manager Ronald Koeman from watching out for possible transfers in the January window.

The Dutchman plans to sign Manchester City’s Eric Garcia and Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum to both contracts in his final year, according to the Mirror.

Koeman will hope to close deals for both cheaply due to the £ 88 million hit.
