Billy Gilmour facing an uncertain future at Chelsea
Scotsman Billy Gilmour is one of Chelsea’s best young talents. The 19-year-old had his break with the first team last season before spending months injured.
Now in shape, he has picked up where he left off. Gilmour went on to collect the man of the match award in his full Champions League debut against Krasnodar earlier this season. He did the same in his full debuts in the Premier League and FA Cup.
Gilmour was held in high regard by Frank Lampard. Now that he’s gone, there seems to be a lack of clarity about the player’s future at the club.
According to the Mirror, he could be ready to leave the club once Thomas Tuchel takes over Stamford Bridge.
The German coach will have days to unload players he does not consider part of his plans at the club. Gilmour appears to be among those on the list with a loan proposal.
That contrasts with what Lampard had in store for Gilmour. The former boss said at the weekend that he plans to see the youngster develop at Chelsea for the rest of the season.
Leaving is the best option
Gilmour has no shortage of equipment lining up to take it on loan. The likes of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in the 19-year-old.
The youngster has also performed well in training, leaving a host of first-team stars in awe. (h / t Express)
With players like N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Matteo Kovacic and Jorginho ahead of him in the pecking order, Tuchel may look to work with established stars before risking using an upcoming star.
More Chelsea news
Given his potential, everything indicates that Gilmour could become an outstanding midfielder in the future. So far he has shown the ability to compete at the highest level and any fall in his position could halt his development.
If Chelsea is unwilling to provide the minutes to him at the Bridge, it will be in the best interest of everyone involved to be allowed to go on loan.
