Frank who?
Frank Lampard’s achievements as a Chelsea player will never be forgotten, but the furor over his dismissal as manager will fade the longer Thomas Tuchel continues to win.
This victory made it three straight wins since that draw in Tuchel’s first game in charge.
In two short weeks in charge, the German has revived Chelsea’s hopes for the Champions League, which had collapsed in Lampard’s final weeks in office.
The Blues have moved up to fifth place and are just one point behind the top four in this open race for the Champions League places.
Mason Mount made his third consecutive start with Tuchel and justified the new Chelsea manager’s faith in him by opening the scoring with a clinical finish.
The maligned Timo Werner was influential and the German striker was involved in both Chelsea goals, even though his wait to find the back of the net continues.
For Sheffield United, the game followed a depressingly familiar pattern and they fought hard, missed an early opportunity, gave their all, but ultimately came up short.
They were given a lifeline when Antonio Rudiger scored an own goal to level the game, but they quickly let it slip away and are now 12 points from safety.
United are still struggling and could have taken an early lead when Oli McBurnie fed Oli Burke down the left and the Blades forward shot into the side net.

United were positive and thought they had won a penalty when Ben Chilwell caught Chris Basham’s leg.
Referee Kevin Friend signaled the spot and Ollie Norwood stepped forward to shoot the penalty, but VAR Simon Hooper correctly overruled the decision as Basham had been slightly offside.
Chelsea created little at first and Rudiger fired wide from long range and Chilwell headed in from a Cesar Azpilicueta cross.
That all changed two minutes before the interval when Chelsea opened the Blades on the left with a sweeping move.

Werner was very involved and handed the ball to Mateo Kovacic before making an incisive run down the left.
Chilwell found Werner with a curly pass and returned the ball to Mount, who deftly scooted into the far corner from 12 yards, missing Aaron Ramsdale.
Chelsea was in control only for Rudiger to unleash a forehand to gift-wrap the Blades in an unexpected draw in the 54th minute.
Instead of clearing the ball with his helmet when McBurnie couldn’t find Burke with a direct pass, Rudiger tried to return it to Edouard Mendy and threw it into the net.
It was a ridiculous way for Chelsea to concede their first goal of Tuchel’s reign.
Fortunately for them, it was inexpensive and they took the lead again four minutes later on a penalty from Jorginho after Friend initially rejected their appeals.
Ramsdale caught Werner, who had latched on to Kean Bryan’s weak back pass, and Friend finally delivered the kick after Hooper advised him to check it on the courtside monitor.
The Blades fought to the end and Mendy saved an aerial kick from Billy Sharp in injury time.
