Arsenal are on track to have a very successful season with Mikel Arteta.
The Spaniard was backed in the transfer market and was not afraid to spend money, signing Willian, Gabriel Magalhães and Dani Ceballos (on loan) before the transfer deadline.
And, with just minutes to go in the transfer window, Arsenal made their most significant signing in the form of Thomas Partey.
The Gunners had been chasing a move for Partey all summer, but they finally got their man when he signed for 45 million pounds.
Partey has signed a four-year contract with the club worth over £ 200,000 per week.
So why have Arsenal decided to pay all that money for the Ghanaian?
Of course, Partey comes to Arsenal with a great pedigree. He has been a mainstay in an Atlético team that has been so strong on defense in recent years.
During his time at the Spanish club, Partey faced Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest player of all time, on numerous occasions.
And Partey more than defended the Argentine magician. In fact, a video has even been created showing how well he handled it, titled: ‘Thomas Partey Made MESSI Look Like Lingard!’
The two minute video consists of Partey continually beating Messi. Check it out below:
No matter how many times Messi tried to get past Partey in the video above, he couldn’t seem to find a way to slap the Ghanaian.
Then it ends with Messi’s crying, which is a bit harsh, but still quite funny.
JAMES STROUD OF GIVEMESPORT SAYS:
Ok the video above may be a bit skewed. Of course, there have been cases in the past where Messi has overtaken Partey.
But still, it’s easy to see why Arsenal fans are excited about the signing of the 27-year-old.
The Gunners have been looking for a replacement for Patrick Vieira since he left the club in 2005. They may have finally succeeded.
