Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has officially completed his transfer from Atlético de Madrid to Arsenal, signing a four-year contract after the Gunners activated their release clause from Los Colchoneros.
Partey had been with Atlético de Madrid since 2012, playing 188 games, in which he won the Europa League and the Super Cup in 2018, and was runner-up in the Champions League in 2016.
The Ghana international made 46 appearances for Atlético in the 2019/20 season, playing a key role in his third place finish in La Liga and reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
During his time at Atlético, Partey scored 16 goals and gave 12 assists.
The Gunners activated their buyout clause with La Liga, paying 50 million euros for the 27-year-old midfielder, Atlético announced Monday night.
The signing of the Ghanaian defensive midfielder could pose a threat to the ownership of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who started the season with Arsenal on the right foot.
After returning from his one-season loan at Besiktas, Arteta opted to stay with Elneny and started him in three of the first four games in the Premier League this season.
