Pastor Mensa Otabil advised churches to endure the current times while waiting for normality to return to society
Senior Pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensa Otabil has advised that the time is not right for churches to come together for worship.
According to the preacher, churches have a role to play in protecting society by urging adherence to current protocols even though they are cumbersome.
“This is not the time for the churches to consider meeting in assemblies because the crisis before us is not going down,” he urged.
He was speaking during his virtual church service to share the word of God with his congregation on Sunday.
Many churches now offer online services through many social media platforms to get their messages across to their congregations in the comfort of their homes.
This is necessary since President Akufo-Addo has banned all social gatherings of more than 25 people due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
His comments come after some churches have asked the president to lift the ban on social gatherings to physically unite with his congregation once again.
With the country’s case count above 4,000, Dr. Otabil stated that although Covid-19 cases continue to rise, the situation demands that Christians endure.
“Just when we thought that in Ghana we had control over the situation, we began to realize that the virus has a mind of its own. It does not seem to correspond to some of the efforts we are making, “he said.
Dr. Otabil called for patience during the current phase while waiting for the time when churches can safely reopen for communion.
“It may not seem appropriate to us, but that’s the price we pay to make the world a better place,” he said.
He also advised the faithful to wait until it is safe to meet in one agreement.
