Martin Kpebu, a lawyer, says he is confident that the three senior officials who were convicted of causing financial losses to the state will appeal the decision.
Speaking in the main Joy FM story on Tuesday, Kpebu said there is no way that the three officials who worked under the Mahama government simply accepted the prison sentence as their destiny.
“This is not the end of the battle, that is something that is clear to me.
“Because looking at the past experiences and stature of these people, there is no way they are going to make the decision right now as the final decision, they will go to the supreme court,” he said.
A former Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), a former Chairman of the Authority Board and a former National Security representative coordinator were found guilty of causing financial losses to the state.
William Tetteh Tevie and Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie were punished with a six-year prison sentence, while Salifu Osman received a five-year prison sentence.
Judge Eric Kyei Baffour found them guilty of causing a $ 4 million financial loss to the state.
However, another accused person, a businessman, was acquitted and released.
Advocating for an amendment to the laws, the lawyer said, it would be advisable for convicts to be given bail during their appeal, that is, if they appeal.
According to him, it will be fair if they win their subsequent repair of the case.
Mr. Kpebu also praised the judge for indicating that some of the officials’ assets are kept to reimburse the state should they be found guilty until the Supreme Court.
“Sending someone to jail without recovering any assets does not benefit Ghanaians.
“We should be very interested in recovering any lost property, so the order that the state confiscate some assets is something that I consider highly laudable.”
