Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has refused to be ruled out of the race for Celtic’s job, while praising Scottish football and the work Steven Gerrard has been able to do in Glasgow.
Henry has been out of the dugout since February after stepping down as head of Montreal Impact.
Now, however, the Premier League icon says he hopes to return to management and admits that he has always had respect for Celtic.
“In all humility, whatever comes my way, I’m not saying it should come my way, but whatever comes my way I’ll evaluate it,” Henry said on the Robbie Fowler Podcast.
I’m sure they are going to work on what they are going to do. I don’t know what’s going on there, this is a club that I respect a lot, I’m sure like many people in the world, but I don’t know.
‘All I know is that I want to train and be back there. You look at what Stevie G (Steven Gerrard) has done and it’s ridiculous. What a man. I knew he was going to deliver. ‘
Henry went on to describe how much he appreciates the time the Rangers have given Gerrard, to allow him to create a team before making a charge to fight Celtic’s dominance in the SPL.
Speaking from experience, Henry knows that men on the touchline are now afforded little patience and that results are expected immediately.
During his first foray into management, with his old club Monaco, Henry found himself fired from office after just four months in charge. He left with a record of just four wins, five draws and 11 losses, out of 20 games in charge.
Henry added: ‘What I like about the Rangers is that they gave him time to build a team, to grab the players that he wanted and make sure they were going to play.
‘I love that they gave him time to catch Celtic, because if not, how are you going to do it? You need more than one season and two seasons.
‘To go back to what you asked, I have great respect for both clubs, but I’m just trying to wait and see.
“I’m available and I don’t know what will come to me, but I want to train safely.”
Former Manchester United and Celtic player Roy Keane has also been heavily tipped for the position, with current interim coach John Kennedy expected to be relieved of first-team duties at the end of the season.
