Patrice Evra has recalled how Thierry Henry once turned off his television when watching Granit Xhaka captain Arsenal.
The Swiss midfielder is back on the bad books of Gunners fans, as he received a red card in his team’s 1-0 loss at home to Burnley.
Xhaka received her marching orders, after a VAR review, for putting her hands around Ashley Westwood’s neck.
Last year, the 28-year-old was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy for appearing to tell a fan to ‘fuck off’ when he was substituted in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
Xhaka’s latest misdemeanor proved costly as the ten-man Arsenal lost their seventh Premier League game at 12, leaving them 15th in the table.
After the game, former Manchester United and France defender Evra was highly critical of the Arsenal players.
And he claimed that his friend and Arsenal legend Henry, the northern club’s record scorer, was not a fan of Xhaka in particular.
According to Evra, Henry once turned off the television when he saw Xhaka leading the Arsenal team into the tunnel.
Evra told Sky Sports: “Thierry Henry, one day he invited me to his house to see Arsenal.
“He turned on the television, the first image he saw on the screen was Xhaka leading Arsenal.
Thierry Henry turned off the television. He said ‘I can’t see my team and Xhaka being the captain’.
“He was telling you everything about what the legends of this club think of him. Again he disappointed his team.
“We criticize [Nicolas] Both Pepe but Xhaka, it is not the first time ”.
Sky Sports host David Jones responded: “Well, Thierry is not here to confirm that story, so maybe we need to be a little careful about that.”
It is the seventh time Arsenal have suffered a Premier League player sent off since Mikel Arteta was appointed manager nearly a year ago and the defeat leaves the FA Cup champion just five points from the relegation zone.
When asked if he felt dejected by Xhaka’s actions, Arteta replied, “Yes. But honestly, I think it was unacceptable to do that action and the players are in a moment where they are so willing to do more and fight more and show how committed they are, to be alive in the game.
“This time Granit has overstepped. We cannot make those mistakes because they are the wrong approach to what we are trying to do.
“You clearly made a mistake. The way the game was going, the dominance we had… it was a game that we had to win and with 10 men it makes it much more difficult. You give the opponent a chance and end up losing. “
