The director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has blamed the party leadership for the current fissures in the opposition NDC.
Speaking to Newsfile host Samson Lardy Anyenini, Buaben Asomoa indicated that the position of NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo on the ongoing controversy has not been heard, adding that the Party Council also appears to be undecided.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, in a March 31 press release, urged calm among the NDC rank and file and noted that the matter “has been dealt with in a way that will promote and strengthen the cohesion of the party and all their organs. ” .
However, the NPP Director of Communications is of the opinion that the opposition party is currently facing internal opposition and division.
“You have a situation where clearly there is a huge power vacuum in the NDC… Right now, the NDC is in such a state that any individual who takes action will take it in pursuit of the agenda of a group within the NDC.
“It is clear that there are groups in the NDC and there is a leadership vacuum. In all this, where is the president? A Council of Elders walking around, being neutral and all that, ”he said.
His comment is a reaction to the resignation of North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from the Parliament Appointments Committee, who cited his “principles” as the reason. His resignation was followed by criticism of the minority leader in Parliament.
According to Mr. Buaben Asamoa, the NDC party structure makes it difficult for party members to act “independently”.
He believes that these attacks are also intended to force a change in the party’s leadership in Parliament.
“It is a legitimate opportunity to try to evict Haruna [Iddrisu]. The question [is] Can that be successful? I don’t think it will be successful. It will not be successful because I believe the Spokesperson side will rally behind the incumbent leadership. “
