The Volta Region at the end of Saturday had registered 281 new active cases of COVID-19 The Volta Region at the end of Saturday had registered 281 new active cases of COVID-19

Ho Municipal had about 89 active cases, followed by Hohoe with 71 active cases, denoting that 15 of the 18 districts have seen active cases.

Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, Deputy Regional Director of Health Services of Ghana, in charge of Public Health, informed the Ghana News Agency that the Region had registered more than 160 new cases in three days.

He said the increase in COVID-19 cases in February alone in the Region was unprecedented since the disease hit the country in March last year.

Although he said that basic schools still do not register any case of COVID-19, it was observed that students, students and teachers of some institutions were not complying with preventive protocols such as the use of facial or nasal masks, maintaining a social distance of two meters and hand washing under running water with soap.

“The situation, if left unchecked, can lead to disease outbreaks on various school campuses,” he said.

Dr. Djokoto commended the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the efforts that so far have led to the fight against COVID-19 on the various campuses.

He said that the Regional Health Directorate was working assiduously with the GES to further improve adherence to safety protocols in all schools.

He advised parents to instill a sense of responsibility in their pupils and also provide them with the necessary learning materials so that they refrain from having to share items with other students.

The assistant principal warned that in no case “students should put on or exchange masks.”

He called for the need for all stakeholders to come together to reverse the current wave of increases in cases of the virus.

“In his opinion, the situation can only improve if everyone recognizes that his contribution is vital to our success,” he added.
