The attempt by Nana Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party (UFP) to challenge her disqualification and also stop the conduct of the December 7 elections has been rejected by a High Court in Accra.

Mr. Boateng was one of the possible presidential candidates disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC).

However, the Commission gave the green light to 12 others to participate in the next elections.

The Court, chaired by Ms. Judge Ruby Aryeetey, held that Mr. Boateng was heard by the EC and the EC even informed him about his disqualification.

Weighing the matter in the balance, the court held that the country as a whole had the possibility of suffering more than Mr. Boateng.

Mr. Boateng had gone to court after the EC rejected his forms on October 9 this year because three people who allegedly endorsed his form had denied it.

Therefore, he went ahead and filed a precautionary measure and a request for judicial review challenging his disbarment.

Mr. Boateng argued that his debarment by the EC was unfounded and the same was also incorrect.

Furthermore, it described as false the EC’s assertion that those who supported its nomination form had refused to endorse the forms.

Therefore, the plaintiff was asking the court for a certiorari order addressed to the EC to overturn his decision in a press release announcing his disqualification.

Again, Mr. Boateng was seeking a statement that the EC press release of October 19 was described as “void and without legal basis.

He was also seeking a prohibitive court order preventing EC from holding the 2020 presidential election without him (Boateng) as a candidate.
