The vendors in the Yendi and Bimbilla markets have praised the Government for the third disinfection of markets nationwide.

According to them, the disinfection exercise has come at the most desired moment due to the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and Local Government Minister Hajia Alima Mahama for this laudable initiative to ensure markets are disinfected for the third time amid COVID- 19, “they said.

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), has partnered with waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) to disinfect markets across the country across the country as part of measures to control the new coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s disinfection team broke into the Yendi market on Thursday, November 12, 2020 to embark on the exercise.

Zoomlion General Manager for the East Corridor Zone Edmond Kweku Vidjah in his comments said that the exercise will cover ten districts.

“Today we are in the Yendi market to disinfect the market as stated by President Akufo-Addo. The first and second phase disinfection exercise helped control the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that this third exercise will also help us to combat the pandemic. I will beg the public to adhere to the protocols. ” Mr Vidjah added.

Hajia Sakina Abudu, a Yendi market vendor praised the Akufo-Addo-led government along with Zoomlion for dedicating themselves to fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The municipal executive director, Nanumba North, Abdulai Yaquob, reporting to a section of journalists, highlighted that the municipality so far has five imported cases and, as such, awareness was intensified again as of November 6, 2020.

He further added that clergy have also been informed of adhering to COVID-19 protocols.

“So far, we have distributed PPE to the schools of the municipality, five imported cases from the Oti Region have been registered and thus we have dictated to the markets to ensure that social distance is practiced. The first and second disinfection exercises were beneficial therefore with the imported cases in the municipality, it is appropriate that we sensitize the people of the municipality. Besides that, we will also continue to evaluate all travelers from Kumasi, Accra, Ho and other parts of the country who will come to our municipality, “he emphasized.

The exercise was also carried out simultaneously in the Gushegu, Bimbilla and Savilugu Markets.
